Is he a man or is he the Son of God?
The fact that he is a historical figure is not disputed, only who he is is questioned by many. Lets read some passages in the Bible and see what we come up with.
This is how he was born:
Matt 1:18 This is how the birth of Jesus Christ came about: His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be with child through the Holy Spirit. 19 Because Joseph her husband was a righteous man and did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly. 20 But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, "Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. 21 She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins." 22 All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: 23 "The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel" --which means, "God with us".
He was born to Mary super naturally. In other words she became pregnant without the help of a man. The Holy Spirit did it super naturally. This was hard to except for Joseph, so he was going to divorce her, but because of an Angel explaining it to him he stayed with here.
Once Jesus got older and started his ministry he did many miracles.
Here are some examples:
Matthew 8:14-17 He healed one of his disciples Mom (Peter's) and drove out demons.
14 When Jesus came into Peter's house, he saw Peter's mother-in-law lying in bed with a fever. 15 He touched her hand and the fever left her, and she got up and began to wait on him. 16 When evening came, many who were demon-possessed were brought to him, and he drove out the spirits with a word and healed all the sick. 17 This was to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah: "He took up our infirmities and carried our diseases."
Matthew 14:22-27 Jesus walks on water.
22 Immediately Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowd. 23 After he had dismissed them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray. When evening came, he was there alone, 24 but the boat was already a considerable distance from land, buffeted by the waves because the wind was against it. 25 During the fourth watch of the night Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake. 26 When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. "It's a ghost," they said, and cried out in fear. 27 But Jesus immediately said to them: "Take courage! It is I. Don't be afraid."
Matthew 20:29-34 Jesus heals two blind men.
29 As Jesus and his disciples were leaving Jericho, a large crowd followed him. 30 Two blind men were sitting by the roadside, and when they heard that Jesus was going by, they shouted, "Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us!" 31 The crowd rebuked them and told them to be quiet, but they shouted all the louder, "Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us!" 32 Jesus stopped and called them. "What do you want me to do for you?" he asked. 33 "Lord," they answered, "we want our sight." 34 Jesus had compassion on them and touched their eyes. Immediately they received their sight and followed him.
John 11:21-45 Raising Lazarus after being dead for several days.
38 Jesus, once more deeply moved, came to the tomb. It was a cave with a stone laid across the entrance. 39 "Take away the stone," he said. "But, Lord," said Martha, the sister of the dead man, "by this time there is a bad odor, for he has been there four days." 40 Then Jesus said, "Did I not tell you that if you believed, you would see the glory of God?" 41 So they took away the stone. Then Jesus looked up and said, "Father, I thank you that you have heard me. 42 I knew that you always hear me, but I said this for the benefit of the people standing here, that they may believe that you sent me." 43 When he had said this, Jesus called in a loud voice, "Lazarus, come out!" 44 The dead man came out, his hands and feet wrapped with strips of linen, and a cloth around his face. Jesus said to them, "Take off the grave clothes and let him go." 45 Therefore many of the Jews who had come to visit Mary, and had seen what Jesus did, put their faith in him.
These are just some of the many miracles that he did, but please don't confuse these miracles with some of the stuff you see on TV. I firmly believe that you can pray for someone and God can heal them, if he so chooses, but he doesn't turn it into a sideshow.
So now we now know he wasn't conceived in the normal way and he did miracles once he started his ministry. Some people say: "Okay God helped him do these miracles" or they say: "He was a good man and a prophet". Is this possible? No, because he claimed to be God. The Bible teaches that God, the Son of God and the Holy Spirit are one. Jesus said he was the Son of God.
This is a excerpt from the time he was being questioned by the Pharisee's:
MT 26:63 But Jesus remained silent. The high priest said to him, "I charge you under oath by the living God: Tell us if you are the Christ, the Son of God." 64 "Yes, it is as you say," Jesus replied. "But I say to all of you: In the future you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven."
So going by the above statement he is either God or a liar.
Lets check out some more claims Jesus made.
He said he was the only way into heaven:
JN 14:6 Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
Jesus said he would get crucified because of his claims, but be raised to life after three days. Then he would go to heaven to prepare a place for his followers.
Matt20:17 Now as Jesus was going up to Jerusalem, he took the twelve disciples aside and said to them, 18 "We are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be betrayed to the chief priests and the teachers of the law. They will condemn him to death 19 and will turn him over to the Gentiles to be mocked and flogged and crucified. On the third day he will be raised to life!"
Matthew 27:31-35 speaks of his crucifixion
31 After they had mocked him, they took off the robe and put his own clothes on him. Then they led him away to crucify him. 32 As they were going out, they met a man from Cyrene, named Simon, and they forced him to carry the cross. 33 They came to a place called Golgotha (which means The Place of the Skull). 34 There they offered Jesus wine to drink, mixed with gall; but after tasting it, he refused to drink it. 35 When they had crucified him, they divided up his clothes by casting lots.
Acts 10-40-41 confirms that he was raised from the dead.
40 but God raised him from the dead on the third day and caused him to be seen. 41 He was not seen by all the people, but by witnesses whom God had already chosen--by us who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead.
Luke 24:50-51 Speaks of him going to heaven
50 When he had led them out to the vicinity of Bethany, he lifted up his hands and blessed them. 51 While he was blessing them, he left them and was taken up into heaven.
In John 14:3 Jesus promises to come back for his followers.
JN 14:3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.
Now based on everything you have read here do you think he is the Son of God or is he a liar?
Lets sum it up:
He was not conceived in a regular way.
He did many miracles during his time of ministry.
He was crucified for what he said and did.
He came back to life three days after his crucifixion.
He went to heaven and promised to come back.
Is this enough to convince you of who he is? If you think he may be the Son of God, but you need more to convince you, please get a Bible and study the books Matthew, Luke Mark, John and Acts. I guarantee if you study with an open mind you will be convinced that he is the Son of God.
If you do believe he is the Son of God and want to share in his promise of eternal life in heaven, it is time to receive him as your personal Lord and Savior.
