Before we talk about this, what is a Christian? Let's see.
The Bible says the following: ACTS 4:12 Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved."
JN 14:6 Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
This sets the stage. This is the only way. In other words, no matter what anyone might say, this is the only way to be a Christian.
So what do you do?
RO 10:9 That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved
Okay once you make this decision, now what?
Now you will be in church every Sunday from here on forward.
That would be great, but it doesn't say that. Let's check it out:
HEB 4:9 There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God;
HEB 4:10 for anyone who enters God's rest also rests from his own work, just as God did from his.
God wants us to take time to rest in him. There are two Rests: "Now", as in here on earth - "Then", as in heaven with him. God wants us to reflect on him and rest in his promises. God wants us to worship him. God, because of what he has done for us deserves our worship.
HEB 12:28 Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, 29 for our "God is a consuming fire."
When God created the world, he worked six days and he rested on the seventh. In the Old Testament this was the law. Their Sabbath was on Saturday, which later was moved to Sunday by the early Christians.
Does it say anywhere we have to be in church every Sunday? No, but we need to rest just as God rested from his own work. We need to take the time to worship God.
And God also wants us to fellowship with other believers.
Why does he want us to fellowship with other believers?
1 Thess 5:11 Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.
It is hard to walk by yourself. When we get down or mess up, we need others to encourage us and help us up.
Acts 2:42 They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.
Why do you think they did this?
It is like when you are playing football, if you don't learn the "rules", you cannot play the way you are suppose to.
It takes more then one person to be strong. There is strength in numbers.
Ecc 4:12 Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.
Conclusion:
Once you no Christ it, is not done. Now it is time to walk toward the finish line.
We need each other to succeed.
Even if you don't go to church every Sunday, in order to be able to walk the way God intends us to, we need to be hooked up with a group of believers. This allows us to worship God, get encouraged, get build up and be taught. In other words we need a Sabbath Day, but it can be any day of our choosing.
Should that be the end of it?
No. We need to spend as much time as possible with other believers, not just in church. Like the old saying goes: Show me who your friends are and I will tell you who you are.
