What time of year is it?
To a lot of people it is the Holiday season. But Christians it is the Christmas season.
What happened on Christmas?
LK 2:8 And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. 9 An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. 10 But the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. 11 Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord. 12 This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger."
Jesus chose to come to this earth as a "regular person". He came quietly.
He did send some Angels to announce his coming. Do you notice something? The angels appeared to shepherds. Jesus didn't announce himself making a big commotion.
The 3 wise men you read about in another part of scripture, are believed to have shown up later (possibly 40 days to a year). You are probably used to seeing them at most nativity displays.
The wise men coming to pay there respect to Jesus shows us that Jesus is worthy of respect from all walks of life and all different people.
I think the reason Jesus chose to make himself known to the "common man" first, is because the "common man" is more open to believe.
LK 2:13 Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, 14 "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests."
What did the angels do? The first thing they did was praise God. Then they proclaimed peace to those on who his favor rests.
Who are those? They are the people that believe in Jesus.
LK 2:15 When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, "Let's go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about." 16 So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger.
They went and checked it out. Part of it I am sure was human curiosity.
LK 2:17 When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, 18 and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. 19 But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. 20 The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told.
Then they spread the word. You could call them the first evangelists.
People had different reactions to this:
A lot of people where amazed.
Mary just soaked it all in and "meditated" on it.
The shepherds went back praising God. Things where just as they had been told. In other words they checked it out and went back happy that things where as they had been told.
So what is Conclusion:
Where are you in this? Do you believe in Jesus coming to this earth? What is your reaction to this and are you going to do with it?
If you are skeptical, are you going to check it out to see if it will be "real" for you? Only you can take the time to look at this, no one can do it for you. Then you can decide if you choose to believe it.
